KENNEWICK, Wash. - 2nd Harvest volunteers and employees are excited to give away 42,000 pounds of chicken.

Tyson foods donated the semi truck load of frozen meat today.  This is the largest food donation Tyson has given to 2nd Harvest Tri-Cities so far.

The chicken will go to families who need it here in the region.

In the past seven years, Tyson foods has donated over 47 million pounds of protein products in the U.S.

"Basically it's just our way of contributing to the communities, showing people that Tyson definitely does power the spirit and that we do care," says Ray McGaugh with Tyson Foods.

Tyson's partnership with 2nd Harvest is part of a campaign they started a year ago.  Both businesses started selling cook books called "Powering the Spirit."

$3,400 dollars of the money earned from the cook book sale was also given to 2nd Harvest today.
