GRANDVIEW, Wash.--This is more than just a commercial weigh station, troopers say. It's the future for the agency.
Today, State Patrol and DOT officials took part in a ribbon cutting ceremony. The 2, 800 square foot facility is the only Weigh station eastbound on I-82. Included is a technology package with Weigh-In-Motion or (WIM), and Automatic Vehicle Identification. This allows Commercial Vehicle Troopers to screen some of the high risk carriers.
Chief John Batiste is going to build around this facility model.
"It's a great combination," says Chief John R. Batiste. It allows the officers to be in one location, to share information, share intelligence about crimes that are occurring and also to be readily accessible to the public."
Facility will also serve as the Grandview and Prosser detachment office. This gives troopers great visibility of the freeway and provides shorter response time to incidents.
