YAKIMA, Wash - The Washington State Patrol will have extra troopers out till the weekend is officially over. This holiday weekend marks the final days for the states "Drive Hammered Get Nailed Campaign," to get drunk drivers off the streets.
This year there have been six DUI arrests in Yakima County from the state patrol. Only three in the Tri-Cities-Walla Walla area. But staff at the state patrol say, the weekend is not over.
"Our troopers are still out there working very hard, enforcing zero tolerance for dui, speeders, and aggressive drivers," says Sgt. Ed McEvoy.
Sargeant McEvoy says the state patrol increased DUI arrests this year by five percent during "Drive Hammered Get Nailed" compared to last year.
