Clarke Scores at Fifth Minute, Wildcats Finish with Second Draw of 2007
Central plays to 1-1 deadlock with northwest university
ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Central Washington junior Lynde Clarke scored at the fifth minute, and the Wildcats held a 31-2 shot advantage but came away with a 1-1 tie against visiting Northwest University on Tuesday afternoon at the CWU Soccer Field.
Central is now 3-1-2 on the season, while Northwest is 0-3-2.
Clarke scored her first goal of the season at the 4:28 mark on a pass from junior Hannah Bridges. The Wildcats held that lead for just under 13 minutes, however, as Shauna Marshall scored Northwest's first goal of the season at the 17:15 mark on a lob shot from 30 yards out to tie the game at 1-1.
Despite its significant shot advantage, Central Washington was never able to score a go-ahead goal the rest of the way, playing to its second draw in six starts this season. The Wildcats have now outshot their opposition by a 116-44 margin in six contests.
Freshman Aneesa Gonzales did not have to make a save in goal for CWU, while the Eagles' Jasmine Yeldon made 10 stops between the pipes.
Central Washington continues its three-game home stand on Friday afternoon against Notre Dame de Namur University in a scheduled 3 p.m. kickoff.
