Dangerous Chemical Removed From Microwave Popcorn

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Most microwave popcorn will no longer include a potentially dangerous ingredient.  The announcement came from Con Agra foods, the largest maker of microwave popcorn.

A company spokesman says they will no longer use a flavoring called diacetyl.  The chemical is linked to a life-threatening condition commonly known as popcorn lung.

Workers exposed to the chemical for long periods of time can contract the disease.  This announcement comes on the heels of a hospital study, revealing potential dangers to consumers as well as workers.
