Body Found in Wreckage on Chinook Pass, Plane ID Provides Clues

Posted: Updated:

CHINOOK PASS, Wash. - Yakima County Sheriff's Deputies have yet to confirm that the body found on Chinook Pass is that of a missing pilot, 53 year-old George Trupp.

But aerial video of the crash site confirms the downed plane is the same one Trupp was flying when he disappeared.  Trupp hasn't been seen since May, when he was flying over the mountains on his way from Twin Falls, Idaho to Renton.

His plane was last seen on radar near Chinook Pass, about 50 miles west of Naches.  A hunter spotted a downed plane and body in that area Wednesday morning.  Search and Rescue was called out, but they are withholding information on the pilot's identity because the victim's family hasn't been notified.  The body has been taken to the Yakima County morgue.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.
