Walla Walla Unveils New Parent Support Center
WALLA WALLA, Wash.- With kids back in school parents in Walla Walla have another resource to help keep their children on track in school.
State Representative Maureen Walsh dedicated the new parent information and resource center in Walla Walla Thursday to the delight of parents who say it'll change the way they raise their children.
Parents like Lucy Ramirez say this is a change in the way their kids are being readied for school.
"This is the first time that we're, we've had something like this in Walla Walla area," Ramirez said.
Walla Walla's new parent information and resource center gives parents a new light into their children's education; before they even show up on campus.
Designed to get kids up to speed before they enter kindergarten, PIRC is a new federally funded parent support network.
State Representative Maureen Walsh has been one of the program's biggest supporters.
"Always when you're working in government you have different programs that come down the pipe, but i think the reality and statistical evidence is behind the necessity and need for this program in our communities is really strong," said Walsh.
This is the second of five PIRC centers around the area that are planned.
Still yet to open are centers in Connell, Basin City and Othello, along with the one that's already opened in Pasco.
