Shooting at a Kennewick Apartment Complex
KENNEWICK, Wash.--Around 7:00 o'clock last night, Criminal Apprehension Team (CAT) Detectives say a dispute over money between 25-year-old Samuel Mercado and 37-year-old Carlos Serrano, both of Kennewick, started out as an argument in the parking lot of Hood Manor Apartments on West Hood avenue. Shortly thereafter, police say Aerrano pulled out a gun and started shooting at Mercado in his car. Resident Dalene Coleman, who ironically was moving out today, was outside when it happened.
"I was happy to find out that we were moving, cause we were packing up the truck when it happened," says Coleman. The kids were inside, thank god.
Mercado drove off uninjured. That's when 20-year-old David Zuniga of Pasco picked Serrano up and together started chasing after Mercado. One woman said she was just about to go running with her daughter when neighbors told her to stay inside.
"Little did I know that if I had gone running five minutes previously," says resident Melinda Riggs. We could've been in the middle of a shooting, so it was pretty scary.
A scary scene for every parent in the complex. But one mother admits that senseless crimes occurs everyday in areas that are considered safe.
"As a single mother of two young boys, ya know, I realized that really this can happen anywhere," said one resident.
