Text your Tips to Crime Stoppers

TRI-CITIES, Wash.--Crime Stoppers has been successful in tracking down more than 3,000 suspects with the public's help.

Now, instead of calling the toll-free number (800) 222-TIPS), to provide information about a crime, you can anonymously text message your tips.

After sending your text, you'll get one back with a unique identification number to claim your cash reward.

There's so many people that, that's their basic form of communication nowadays," says Crime Prevention Specialist Mike Blatman. Text messaging has become such an integral part of their lives that they would rather send a text message than pick-up and call somebody."

Here's how it works. Just text TIP411 to 25735 from anywhere in the country and Crime Stoppers will get your tip. People can still call or send their tips via the Internet. Blatman says over 30% of tips come from the web.
