Franklin County, WASH. - A Richland man is this year's truck driving state grand champion.
Chris Poynor beat out 165 drivers in the state competition this summer.
Each applicant had to go one year without any accidents. And Poynor received the top overall score for pre-trip inspections, a driving safety test, personal interview and knowledge test. He said he's pretty excited about all the attention.
"When I do the competition, I do if for fun, and hope to walk away with a little bit of hardware, but actually it's interesting, it's kind of cool because they really baby ya, and give you appreciation of winning it," said Chris Poynor, Conway Freights.
Poynor has been a truck driver for 13 years. And he has already competed at this year's national competition.
