RICHLAND, Wash.- A former barbecue cookoff champ isn't letting a knee injury stop him from feeding his friends, and it's not your everyday lunch.
C.D. Smith is in the Richland Life Care Center to recover from knee surgery, but the man with more than 50-years in the barbecue business is still feeding the rest of the residents from his huge trailer barbecue.
"Well, it's a pleasure. I been stuck in bed without having to get up very much other than to rehab, and to come out in the sunshine and fire up this pit and get some meat on it for a good time tomorrow, it's gonna be great," Smith said.
Smith will feed the other residents his award winning beef-brisket Thursday.
He says his huge smoker can cook more than 40 turkeys at once around Thanksgiving time.
