San Diego 2007: Friday Qualifying for Unlimited Hydroplanes

SAN DIEGO, Cali. - The U-1 FormulaBoats.com didn't get off the blocks on Friday.  Mike Allen spent part of the day making sure sponsor logos were in place.  Defending San Diego champions Jean Theoret and the U-37 Beacon Plumbing did hit the course, but came away without a qualifying time with multiple N2 fuel violations.  The U-25 Superior Racing took some damage to the right rear of the boat.

But everything should be fine before the first heats on Saturday.

Good weather and smooth water led to fast speeds.  Dave Villwock in the U-16 Elam Plus ran off the fastest time of the day.  Steve David in the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto is right behind, less than 3 seconds off the pace and the closest he's been to Villwock in qualifying all year.

Jeff Bernard had the U-5 FormulaBoats.com unlimited cranking as well.  He's less than a second behind David less than 4 seconds behind Villwock.
