SPOKANE, Wash. -- Central Washington University junior Rachael Schurman (Spokane, Wash./Mead HS) has been selected as the co-Player of the Week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference for volleyball. Schurman shares this week's award with Devon Crotteau of Montana State Billings.
Schurman, a middle blocker, led Central to home victories over Alaska Anchorage (3-0) and Alaska (3-1) on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. The wins also propelled the Wildcats into a four-way tie for first place in the GNAC standings after two weeks of play with a 3-1 conference record (4-9 overall).
In last week's victories, Schurman combined for 37 kills, 14 blocks, and a .407 hitting percentage. On the season, she leads the conference in hitting percentage for all matches (.379), and is tops in the GNAC with 4.69 kills, 1.85 blocks, and a .400 hitting percentage in conference-only matches.
Central Washington has won its last three matches and looks to wrap up an undefeated home stand this Saturday (Sept. 22) against archrival Western Washington University. The Wildcats and Vikings are scheduled for a 7 p.m. first serve on Saturday at Nicholson Pavilion.
