PENDELTON, Ore. -- The Umatilla County Emergency Operation Center (EOC) in Pendleton was activated this afternoon in response to a range land fire that began in the Reith area.

Fire started near Reith in the Coombs Canyon area, on the south side of the Umatilla River around 2 p.m.

No evacuations are ordered at this time but some residents have left there homes.

8 fire departments responded to the scene.

Early estimates say the fire has burned over 500 acres. Right now it is just cottonwood burning.

Over 100 structures are threatened but just one storage shead has been burned.

The fire is nearly 100% contained.
