Wapato Woman Died After Being Hit By A Car on US 97

YAKIMA COUNTY, Wash. - Washington State Patrol reports that 35-year-old Deanna Columcus of Wapato was fatally struck by 70-year old Beatrice Nanpooya of Wapato Sunday night.

The accident happened at 8 o'clock in the northbound lanes of US 97 near South Olden Way which is four miles north of Toppenish.

Troopers said there is no crosswalk and that the driver did not see the woman crossing the street.

Investigators were brought to the scene and the road was shut down as authorities were investigating.

Troopers said it was the fault of the pedestrian.  There are no charges pending for the driver.
