Hawks Soccer Team So Good They're Boring themselves?
PASCO. Wash. - The CBC women's soccer team is off to an amazing 8-0 start. They are so good that the ball rarely gets in front of their own net. That's created a problem for Hawks' goalie Lacey Golden:staying focused.
Over the course of a ninety minute game, she may only face a a couple of shots. "There was the 14-0 game, that was frustrating," said the sophomore goalie from Hanford. "I just sat there and didn't do much. I stay focused by jumping around, staying loose, and shouting at the defense. Our defense is awesome."
"If Lacey doesn't get the ball, it means the defense is doing their job," says defender Kirsten Killand.
The Hawks didn't allow their first goal until the end of their seventh game this year. Coach Matt Mills credits smart play by Lacey and an efficient defense. He also adds that Lacey never gets bored back there. "If Lacey hasn't seen a shot, she's yelling at forwards for a goal," said Mills. "She keeps us motivated and organized."
The schedule now gets tougher, so Lacey may have more shots coming her way. The two-year starter will definitely be ready for some action.
