Central Men Take First, Women Second in Apple Ridge Invite
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Central Washington University senior Sam Scotchmer (Snohomish, Wash.) took home the men's individual title and junior Marcie Mullen (Sedro-Woolley, Wash.) took home the women's title as the Wildcat men's and women's team finished first and second, respectively, in the Apple Ridge Run Invitational in Yakima.
Central Washington tallied up 29 total points, while Alaska took second with 36 points and Everett Community College finished third with 60.
Scotchmer finished the men's four-mile run in 21:05, crossing the finish line 28 second ahead of Manuel Santos (unattached), the second-place finisher. Sophomore Eric Ardissono (Shoreline, Wash./Shorewood HS) finished fifth at 22:06 while Trevor Kulvi (Bonney Lake, Wash./Sumner HS) crossed the line 10 seconds behind at 22:16. Scott Palmer (Edgewood, Wash./Puyallup HS) and Tom Johnson (Seattle, Wash./O'Dea HS) finished 11th and 13th, respectively.
On the women's side, Mullen took home the 5k title, crossing the finish line at 19:12. Stephanie Cooke (Ellensburg, Wash.) and Mary Bakeman (Freeland, Wash./South Whidbey HS) finished fifth and eighth, respectively.
Alaska took home the women's team title with 28 points while Central Washington scored 47 points and Everett CC was third with 56.
Central Washington will compete at the Willamette Invitational next weekend at Bush's Pasture Park in Salem, Ore.
