New Crosswalk Will Help Students Cross Safely at Amistad Elementary
KENNEWICK, Wash. - A state grant will pay for a new crosswalk near Amistad Elementary in Kennewick.
4th Avenue is a five-lane road there, and drivers coming around a curve may not see people crossing until it's too late. Pedestrians and people on bicycles have been hit there recently. So a new signal called a HAWK will be put in, along with a radar to tell drivers how fast they're going through the school zone.
A HAWK has a light above the road, that will turn red. Studies show drivers are more likely to stop for red lights than a flashing yellow.
