$14,000 Raised for Richland Man Family After He Tragically Died

RICHLAND, Wash. - Saturday afternoon friends and family of fishing guide Jeff Johansen came together to reel in 14,000 dollars for Jeff's family.

The 37-year-old fisherman tragically died after he went into a diabetic coma last May.

Hundreds came together to raise money by seeing who could catch the biggest salmon on the Columbia River in Richland.

Friends say Johansen was a legendary fisherman who loved the sport.

Longtime Friend Ed Thomas said, "He was always good guy to be around. Always upbeat energetic and you always had a good time with him and you knew you were going to."

Jeff's friends and workers at Sportsman's Warehouse organized the event.

Prizes were given out to the people that caught the top five biggest salmon.  There was also a raffle.

Friends say Jeff would have been shocked to see how many people came out to honor him.
