U.W. and W.S.U. Football Update
SEATTLE and PULLMAN, Wash - The Washington Huskies couldn't score a gigantic upset over USC at Husky Stadium, but they knocked the Trojans out of first place in The Associated Press Top 25. The Trojans held the number one ranking all season until today, when LSU edged past Southern California for the number one ranking. The Trojans dropped to number two. Washington was a 20½-point underdog against the Trojans last night in Seattle, but USC felt lucky to escape with a 27-24 victory.
Also in the AP Top 25 from the Pac-10 today were California, Oregon and Arizona State. Cal climbed three places to number three after their narrow win yesterday at Oregon and the Ducks dropped to number 14. Coach Dennis Erickson's unbeaten Sun Devils were number 18. Now with a three-game losing streak, Washington will have a bye next weekend before playing at Arizona State on Saturday, October 13.
Washington State got a 347-yard, three-touchdown passing performance from quarterback Alex Brink at Arizona last night, but lost 48-20 for its second consecutive Pac-10 loss. The Cougars will face their former coach, Erickson, and Arizona State in Pullman on Saturday at 1 p.m. Both the Huskies and the Cougars are 0-2 in the Pac-10.
