BOARDMAN, Oregon. - A quarter of a million dollars is being awarded to farm workers from Boardman who filed a lawsuit over nonpayment of overtime wages.
About 130 people worked overtime at the Three Mile Canyon farm in Boardman, Oregon. But Oregon Public Broadcasting reports they were paid straight time because management claimed that agricultural laborers don't have to be paid overtime.
The u-s district court has now ruled that since the workers were bagging compost for public sale, it was not agricultural work and therefore, overtime had to be paid.
The staff will get more than a thousand dollars each. The settlement comes after the three mile canyon farm and farm workers reached a union agreement this summer.
