Hackers Could Use Online Video Players as a Way to Spread Viruses
ATLANTA (AP) - While computer users are getting smarter about spotting suspicious e-mails, hackers are looking for sneakier ways to spread malicious codes.
A report by Georgia Tech says that online video players could be come the next target for hackers.
Experts say hackers have moved from sending spam to embedding unwanted codes in images or disguising them as documents. And they think the next logical step is to target media players, like the ones used to watch Youtube videos.
They're also worried about the security of blogs, wikis and social networking sites.
Experts suggest computer users may not suspect that viruses and codes could lurk in such places.
The study was released as the school holds its annual gathering of more than 300 experts to discuss cybersecurity.
They say they're aiming to get ahead of emerging threats rather than having to chase behind them.
