Yakima Teachers Reach Tentative Agreement with District; Still Picketing
YAKIMA, Wash - Yakima School District workers will picket early Friday morning.
The teachers union reached a tentative contract agreement Thursday, but are showing support for other employees who haven't. The new contract will include a pay increase and lower class sizes. Union officials say everyone, including office and maintenance staff, are in this together.
"No matter if they are driving a bus, if they're doing some of the paperwork to help the teachers, if they're cleaning our schools, they're all a big part of our child's success at school," says Vicki Dwight, President of the Yakima Education Association
The school district board meeting scheduled Friday morning after the employees picket, where contract negotions would be discussed, has been cancelled for unknown reasons.
However, employees will still be out demonstrating at 6:30 in the morning at the districts administration building.
