TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - An explosion at a foundry has rocked Tacoma.
The fire department says there are possible injuries at the Atlas Foundry.
The blast after 3 p.m. was heard at least two miles away and caused the lights to blink, according to one resident.
The foundry is near the intersection of I-5 and Highway 16 in the Nalley Valley. The state Transportation Department halted southbound traffic on the interstate.
The Tacoma News Tribune reports multiple explosions and a fireball.
Atlas Foundry Director of Safety Evid Owen told the newspaper he thinks that a propane tank being filled exploded. Another tank was on fire and a third was expected to explode.
Surrounding businesses are being evacuated.
