Cougars Lose Heartbreaker to Sun Devils

PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Thomas Weber kicked a 37-yard field goal with 50 seconds left as 18th-ranked Arizona State squeaked past Washington State 23-20.

The Sun Devils are 6-and-0 under first-year coach Dennis Erickson. Alex Brink passed for 370 yards and two touchdowns for the Cougars, who fell to 2-and-4 and 0-and-3 in the Pac-10.

Washington State had a chance to tie with 12 seconds left but Romeen Abdollmohammadi's 46-yard field goal attempt was wide left.

Rudy Carpenter threw for 217 yards and two touchdowns for the Sun Devils, who are 3-and-0 in conference play.
