Two CWU players get NCC weekly honorsPosted: Updated:
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- Central Washington University freshman Adam Bighill (Montesano, Wash.) and junior Mike Reilly (Kalispell, Mont./Flathead HS) have been named the North Central Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week for football, the conference office announced Monday.
Bighill, a true freshman making just his second collegiate start at linebacker, had a monster game of 16 total tackles, two pass breakups, and a blocked punt in the Wildcats' 45-40 victory over 22nd-ranked South Dakota. One of Bighill's pass breakups came in the end zone on a third-and-goal play in the fourth quarter that forced the Coyotes into a field goal instead of a possible touchdown.
Reilly, meanwhile, spearheaded Central Washington's offensive efforts as he struck for a career-high 399 passing yards, completing 24 of 34 passes. He also threw for four touchdowns without an interception, and surpassed the 400-yard mark in total offense (412) for the first time in his career. He became just the seventh player in school history to break that plateau (14th all-time occurrence).
The NCC Player of the Week selections were the first for both players. Kicker/punter Garrett Rolsma (University Place, Wash./Curtis HS) was the NCC Special Teams Player of the Week two weeks ago after Central's 43-21 win over Minnesota Duluth on Sept. 22.
Central Washington steps out of North Central Conference play one final time this Saturday as the Wildcats (4-1, 3-1 NCC) face a familiar foe in former (and future) Great Northwest Athletic Conference rival Western Oregon (4-1) in Monmouth, Ore. The Wildcats will then return to NCC action against archrival Western Washington on Oct. 20 with the fifth annual Wells Fargo Battle in Seattle, presented by Comcast, at Seattle's Qwest Field.
