Chastain selected as GNAC Soccer Player of Week
SPOKANE, Wash. -- Central Washington University defender Shawnna Chastain (San Diego, Calif./University City HS) has been chosen as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for women's soccer, the conference office announced Monday.
Chastain, a junior, was instrumental in Central Washington's defensive effort in the Wildcats' 1-0 victory at archrival Western Washington on Saturday. She helped hold the Vikings without a first-half shot attempt, keeping Central in the game. The Wildcats then won the contest with an Andrea Archer (Milton, Wash./Fife HS) goal at the 57th minute.
Central Washington has allowed just one goal over its last four games, going 3-1-0 during that stretch. Their only loss since Sept. 20 was a 1-0, double-overtime defeat against Western Oregon on Sept. 30. The Wildcats are now 6-6-2 overall and 3-4-0 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
CWU returns to action with two more challenging away games this week, visiting Montana State Billings on Friday (Oct. 12) and Seattle University on Sunday (Oct. 14). The Wildcats will then play four of their final five matches of the season at home, beginning with an Oct. 18 matchup against Northwest Nazarene.
