DAYTON, Wash.- PacifiCorp plans on expanding operations outside Dayton to serve another 18,000 homes.
PacifiCorp just finished construction on phase one of that project, but with phase two now set to start, those construction jobs from the first project will stay right there in Dayton for at least another year.
The Marengo Two project will add 39 new turbines to PacifiCorp's holdings there and the company says further expansion is also in the works.
"It certainly has a big impact on the tax base and becomes a major part of the operation," said Tom Gauntt with the company.
The new project means that county now has enough wind energy to power almost 100,000 homes.
For an idea of what that means to the county, only about 4,000 people live in Columbia County.
