Archer's Second Half Goal Propels Wildcats To Victory Over WesternPosted: Updated:
BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- Central Washington University senior Andrea Archer (Milton, Wash./Fife HS) took a rebound off of the goal post and fired a shot into the net as the Wildcats upset archrival Western Washington, 1-0, in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon at Orca Field in Bellingham, Wash.
Central Washington improved to 6-6-2 overall, 3-4-0 in conference play as Western Washington dropped to 8-4-1 and 3-3-1 in the GNAC.
Senior Lindsay Mitchell (Federal Way, Wash.) received a pass from junior Hannah Bridges (Federal Way, Wash.) and took a shot that hit off of the goal post as Archer was nearby to score her first goal of the 2007 season from six yards out.
The Wildcats dominated the offensive end of the field throughout the match, outshooting the Vikings 20-12; Central led the shot department 13-0 before halftime. Junior Lynde Clarke (Albuquerque, N.M./Sandia HS) led the offense with five shot attempts while freshman Kelsey Penn (Port Orchard, Wash./South Kitsap HS) came off the bench to attempt four.
Sophomore goalkeeper Amber Easterbrook (Kent, Wash./Kentwood HS) came up huge between the posts for Central, making six saves in her shutout effort.
Central held an edge in corner kicks, 7-5, after taking six in the first half.
Western Washington's Kelly Irving led the Viking offense with four shots while three others added two.
Central Washington will continue its three-game road trip on Friday (Oct. 12) when they travel to Montana State Billings in a 4:00 p.m. MDT (3:00 p.m. PDT) start.
