KENNEWICK, Wash.- Seven area schools were recognized Wednesday as the state's first Schools of Distinction.
The awards signify schools with growth in the top 5% over the past few years in reading and math.
One of the big winners this year was Kennewick's Horse Heaven Hills Middle School.
Only 86 schools out of 2,500 in the state got the awards.
Other area schools recognized include Meadow Brook Intermediate in College Place, Walla Walla's Sharpstein Elementary, Dayton Middle and High School, River View High and Waitsburg High School.
