Woman Who Died in Toppenish Hit and Run was Lying in Road

TOPPENISH, Wash. - Authorities say a woman who died after being hit by a car that left the scene outside Toppenish had been lying in the road.

28-year-old Nichale L. Soto of Toppenish was alive when she was found the occupants of a passing van late Sunday. She was pronounced dead after being taken to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Authorities say she had just walked out of her home and headed into Toppenish after arguing with her boyfriend.

Yakima County coroner's investigator Jack Hawkins says Soto was lying in the road when she was struck. He adds that "it was a low-speed impact" and that she rolled under the vehicle several times.

State troopers say it's unlikely but possible that whoever was driving might not have noticed she was there.

Washington State Troopers are still looking for the driver of the vehicle hat hit Soto. If you know anything about the accident you are asked to call the Washington state patrol at 249-6741.
