Neighbors React to Deadly Shooting In Kennewick

KENNEWICK, Wash. - Neighbors who heard Wednesday's shooting in Kennewick said they couldn't believe it happened right in front of them.

On Wednesday just before 2 a.m., witnesses say a fight broke out at an apartment building located at 6830 W. 1st Ave in Kennewick, near the Honda dealership on Clearwater Ave.

They said the fight turned violent, and two people were shot.

Police report 27-year-old Michael Patrick Salazar was shot and killed.  His brother 26-year-old Cory Salazar was injured. Officers arrested 27-year-old Jon Gannon.

Neighbors said it makes them nervous to think this type of thing could happen in their neighborhood. One woman said she doesn't like the idea of guns and crime being so close to her home. She said when she heard the gunshots she couldn't believe what was happening.

"All I heard was four pops, like a car back firing, and I thought I was dreaming.  And then all of the sudden, I heard the bang, bang, bang on the door from the police department," said Brenda Norwood, neighbor.

Neighbors said they hope something like this doesn't happen again.
