Granato appointed to state Organized Crime Board

YAKIMA, Wash - Washington Governor Christine Gregoire appointed Yakima Police Chief Sam Granato to the state Organized Crime Advisory Board. He was chosen from a list of 3 police chiefs submitted by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.

The board consists of 4 members of the state senate, 4 members of the state house of representatives, 2 county prosecutors, 1 county sheriff, 1 city police chief, 1 retired judge, the secretary of corrections, and the U.S. attorney for the western and eastern districts of Washington State.

The board provides oversight of the Organized Crime Unit of the Washington State Patrol and advises the Governor regarding the state's overall organized crime intelligence efforts.

According to Granato, gangs and illegal drugs are a top priority for the board.
