Shooting Suspect Appears in Court

KENNEWICK, Wash.- An accused murderer made an appearance in court Thursday.

Jon Gannon is accused of killing 27-year-old Michael Salazar early Wednesday morning.

KNDU spoke with both families devastated by this tragedy, and both are still too torn up to talk about it on camera yet.

Meanwhile, Jon Gannon made an appearance in court Thursday.

He's still being held on a 72-hour hold for suspected 2nd-degree murder.

Prosecutors still haven't charged him yet though.

It appears the defense may argue that Gannon was defending himself when he used the gun in his apartment.

They asked today that bail be reduced from $25,000 to $5,000.  A judge denied that claim.

"He's had a long history of absolutely no violence, your honor, his entire life up until this incident, and the one thing we do know factually is that there were two people in his house that he did not know late at night," John Jensen, Gannon's attorney said in court Thursday.

KNDU spoke to the victim's family Thursday.

They're still too torn up to talk on camera about it.

They say reports that the brothers were involved in a fight at the apartment are false.

They called Michael a doting father, and loving brother and son.
