Detective Reacts to Freeman Extradition

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.- Police locally are reacting to Freeman's not guilty plea Friday.

Ken Freeman is being held federally in Spokane, but once authorities there are done with him, the journey's not over, police say he'll have to come back here to Benton County to face charges.

Freeman faces child rape charges here in Benton County, along with a series of federal charges relating to child pornography.

Freeman was originally arrested in Richland after his alleged victim came forward.  The detective who's handled that case says he's relieved to finally see freeman facing justice.

"I mean anytime we can bring an individual like that to justice and make him suffer the consequences for his actions that's always a good thing," said Det. Ray Shepherd with Richland Police.

It's unclear when Freeman will face those charges here in Benton County.

Right now it appears he'll be tried in federal court first, but police say that's still playing itself out right now.
