Homeowner Finds Burglar in his Home

Posted: October 20, 2007 6:30 p.m.

KENNEWICK, Wash.--It happened around 12:30 this afternoon on West First avenue.

Police say the suspect, 24 year old Robert Martin of Kennewick managed to break in through a door on the side of the garage. When the homeowner returned, he noticed Martin was in his house.

Martin ran into the bathroom, locked the door, and escaped through a small bathroom window.

From here, the homeowner decides to follow Martin in his car.

"Two of my officers were in an unmarked car and they were driving along Kennewick ave and they happened to pawn one man who appeared to be chasing another," says Sgt. Brian Swartswalter. So, obviously they want to investigate that.

Right now, police aren't sure if anyone else is involved.

Martin mentioned he wasn't alone, but authorities haven't been able to confirm or deny his claim.

Martin was arrested. He is being held in the Benton County jail on a 72 hour Investigative Hold for Burglary.
