Nashville testing sessions for 2007 have been canceled

Rick Bowles had been trying to put together a fall exhibition and testing for Nashville, but it's not going to happen.  The U-3 team manager and the man behind the Boat Racing Ventures, LLC that is trying to put together new race sites said the test has officially been canceled for 2007.

"I was having no luck at coordinating the PR and Marketing part of the event with the Oct 26th date and Nashville Shores could not do it after Nov 1st," said Bowles in an email.  It's possible the dates may just move, to April of 2008 for a testing session for the Midwest (Indiana) based boats with a full-blown race for May.

"I will be meeting in Nashville on Nov 5th, we need to have our application into the Corp by Nov 30th, 2007 to get permits for the May event."

"I'm pretty positive that's going to happen,"  he said. "We have a contract in place. We have dates. A deposit has been paid."

The dates would be early in the year, some 8 weeks before Evansville. "Being stuck out 8 weeks prior might be an issue," said Bowles. "I've talked to some owners and they've said we need to be there no matter what."

Hydroplanes have been in Nashville before. The first year didn't draw big crowds. "Maybe 2,700 people," said Bowles. The challenge is introducing, or in this case, re-introducing boat racing to a new audience. A test session could help generate interest and spur advance ticket sales.  "How do you get people to come to an event when they don't know what we do?" he asked.
