Suspect Named in Shooting

ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Police have released the name of the Ellensburg man being held in connection with a fatal shooting. Bryce Fortier, 22, is in custody on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is a sophomore at Central Washington University.

Police say the victim in this case, 18 year-old Christopher Chandler, of Kirkland, and a friend were at a Halloween party in Mill Creek Saturday night. They were driving away from the party when they saw several people fighting. Accoring to police, Chandler got out of the car and was shot while trying to break up the fight. He died at the scene and police arrested Bryce Fortier early Sunday morning.

Fortier is being held at the Snohomish County Jail. According to reports, he was scheduled to appear in court yesterday, but chose not to because it could impact the case if it goes to trial.
