West Richland Family Homeless After House Fire Tuesday Night

WEST RICHLAND, Wash. - A family was homeless Tuesday night after fire destroyed their three-story house at 5547 Astoria Road in West Richland.

Firefighters from Benton County 3, Benton County 4 and Richland attempted to battle the fire inside the house from the second floor, but flames forced them to evacuate.

The fire department was called around five o'clock.

Investigators still don't know what caused the fire, but they say it could have been from an electrical problem.

Firefighters said they would be on the scene of the fire for at least five hours.

The family was reportedly staying with relatives.

Firefighters said they were able to save the family's pet birds and a number of computers that the homeowner used for her business.

Astoria Road was shut down for a few hours.  The home sits on the backside of Flat Top Hill.
