RICHLAND, Wash. - The Hanford Falcons are flying high after making the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons. Tuesday in Mattawa, Hanford beat Sunnyside and Eastmont in a three-way tiebreaker to claim the last spot in the 3A division. They have to play third-ranked Kamiakin Saturday at 1 p.m. in the first round. That may be a tough draw, but Rob Oram's team is just pumped up that they made the postseason.
"We're really excited," said junior Thor Buchanan. The Falcons gave Oram the gatorade bath Tuesday night and now have an extra spring in their step.
"Since I've been here, the kids have made a commitment to improve each and every year," said Oram. "We have gotten better. Through our off-season program, the weight room, increasing numbers, committment, focus, everything is improving. It's an awesome reward for our kids. They needed something like this to show them that everything they did, in the end you get your just rewards."
Backup QB Travis Chalk has become the starter and played admirably the last few weeks. The Falcons now play undefeated Kamiakin at Lampson Saturday in the first round.
