Cougs Narrowly Fall to Cal

Posted: Updated:

BERKELEY, Calif. - A late rally by Washington State fell short tonight as the Cougars lost to California, 20-17. WSU quarterback Alex Brink tossed an 18-yard scoring pass to Charles Dillon with just 19 seconds left, and tight end Jed Collins then caught a 2-point conversion pass. But California easily grabbed the Cougars' onside kick after that to put the game away. J

ustin Forsett rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns for California as the Golden Bears snapped a three-game losing streak. Brink passed for 306 yards - including 168 in the fourth quarter - for Washington State, which lost for the fifth time in six games. Michael Bumpus matched Washington State's career receptions record in the fourth quarter, tying 1960s star Hugh Campbell while making four receptions for 47 yards.

The Cougars' next game is next Saturday at home against Stanford.
