N. Idaho investigation started after public record destroyed

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - The Coeur d'Alene Prosecuting Attorney's Office is investigating whether a senior planner for Kootenai County destroyed an audio tape of a public meeting.

Cheri Howell has retained an attorney. Authorities are trying to determine what happened after a September 24th planning commission workshop on Kootenai County's Comprehensive Plan.

Kathy Kolts, a planning commission member, says two other commissioners requested Howell destroy the tape. Kolts says that Howell then asked an administrative secretary to destroy it. Kolts, who wasn't at the meeting, says the tape shouldn't have been running.
