RICHLAND, Wash.- Contractor CH2M hHll is the first on site to get the Department of Energy's Star of Excellence for safety.
The company's 180-member team that samples radioactive tank waste has an injury rate nearly 75% better than the average of other U.S. business in their industry.
Their last recordable injury was more than a year ago.
"The way they look out for each other. They way each individual focuses on safety. This is the third award the workforce has received, this is the top award," said Duane Renberger with CH2M Hill.
If the team goes three years with the same safety record they'll be named to the Legacy of Sars, the highest award level.
