Naches Valley High School football killed in car accident
NACHES, Wash - A Naches Valley High School football player was killed Monday night after he lost control of his pick up truck. Police say 17-year old C.J. Withers over-corrected, causing his vehicle to roll.
The accident happened on Naches Heights Road around 8:30pm. Withers was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other cars involved.
Police say alcohol was not a factor, but Withers was not wearing a seat belt.
As Naches mourns Withers's death, his teammates on the football team must prepare for a playoff game Tuesday night against Ki-Be.
School administrators made the decision to play after meeting with CJ's mother Tuesday morning. She urged the team to play.
Jacob Givens wrestled with Withers, and remembers him as a great teammate.
"He was very supportive," said Givens. "If someone was starting to run slow, he would start to run with them, and step up the pace and get him run faster. He was one of those guys who would run besides you and say work it."
