Capitol Theatre requests funds from City of Yakima for Phase Two Expansion

Yakima, WA -  Capitol Theatre administrators request funds from the Yakima City Council so they can begin the design process for phase two expansion and renovation plans.

CEO Steve Caffery is asking for a little more than $1.1. million in funding.  Half a million dollars will come from a city interfund loan, $416,000 in public facilities district moneys and $250,000 in Capitol Theatre Contributions.

"The second phase is to build a production center on the back of the Capitol Theatre to increase our production abilities," says Caffery, "And then we want to build a community center annex on the corner of 3rd Street and Yakima Avenue that will service the Capitol Theatre, then begin to identify the corner as a center point for downtown."

Caffery says the phase two design process will last through 2008 and they hope to break ground in 2009.

There's also some initial talk about a third phase to turn 3rd Street in that area into a pedestrian plaza.
