Tepeyec Haven Apartments in Pasco are Declared the Greenest in the County.
PASCO, Wash. - An apartment complex in Pasco earns the countries first Gold LEED award for being green, and we're not talking about the paint.
Since construction started on Tepeyac Haven Apartments off 22nd Avenue and Sylvester the LEED designation has been in mind. It stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. The title comes from the United States Green Building Council.
Developers and investors say apartments like these are growing in demand.
Deborah Saweuyer-Parks, CEO of Homestead Capital of Portland, which invested $5.88 million of equity into the $7.57 million project, agrees. "I think if the community rallies around and embraces this kind of housing then the developers will have no choice than to bring a high quality asset to that market."
Other qualifications for the leed designation include water efficiency and environmental quality.
