Yana Samolyuk's Family Speaking OutPosted: Updated:
PASCO, Wash.- It has been more than a year since police say Igor Samolyuk stabbed his wife Yana in their car near Finley.
For the first time, Yana Samolyuk's family is speaking out.
Victor Kokadeyeva says it's been one of the toughest years of his life since he lost his daughter, but any anger toward her killer is gone.
"They still cry everyday, nothing really changed, you know, the times never changed anything," said Yana's sister Viktoriy.
It's been nearly a year and a half since Victor and Vera Kokadeyeva lost their 18-year-old daughter Yana Samolyuk to a brutal stabbing in her car outside Finley.
In the time since then, Victor says his anger is nearly gone.
"Nothing, if you know have it, like in the Bible it says we're never supposed to have anger, at anybody, but sometimes anger comes," he said with his daughter interpreting.
At the time of the killing, Yana Samolyuk was 18, nursing a newborn.
Karina Samolyuk is now almost a year and a half old.
Yana's parents and younger sister are raising her.
"She looks a lot like her and even sometimes acts like her you know, that's her little baby," said Vera.
Yana's husband Igor will go on trial for her killing later this month, but her family says the trial won't bring closure.
"All the memories come back, and then if you plus when you, in a trial, you know, you could have, like you know, they tell the background of everything that happened," said Viktoriy.
Her sister says she'll be at the trial, but doesn't wish anything bad upon Igor. They say the law will decide his fate, and that may finally bring closure.
Igor Samolyuk has been charged with second-degree murder.
Police say he was found in the car with Yana after her death.
Jury selection in his trial will start on the November 26.
