Military Veterans Speak at WSU Tri-Cities

RICHLAND, Wash.--Retired U.S. Navy Captain John Butterfield and U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Colonel David Mitchell spoke earlier at WSU Tri-Cities. Students, staff and a lot of veterans packed the West Atrium on-campus to hear from these two men.

Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell retired in 1993. He last served as an Alaskan Air Command Comptroller in Anchorage. Captain Butterfield served during both the Cold and Vietnam Wars along with the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Captain Butterfield feels the recognition of soldiers is sometimes overshadowed.

"There are so many heroes," says Captain Butterfield. Young men and women today that should be the ones receiving attention and applause instead of some so-called celebrities."

Right now, Captain Butterfield works at a local Richland pharmacy. Lieutenant Colonel Mitchell works as a Financial Analyst for several DOE contractors
