Sun Kings confident new squad can win another title
YAKIMA, Wash. - With a new season starting Friday, the Sun Kings have high hopes for a third-straight CBA title. "I'm cautiously optimistic," smiled reigning coach of the year Paul Woolpert.
The Sun Kings won the CBA title in 2007. 2006, 2003, 2000, and 1995. The team changes each year for the most part. The only holdovers from last years teams are forward Elvin Mims and guard Jason Forte. Rookie Anthony Washington (6-9 250 lbs, Portland St.) will be a key player, and starters will likely include NBA veterans Jason Sasser and Moochie Norris.
"I like our chances. We do have a lot of returning guys. We do have the premiere franchise in the league. Until someone dethrones us, we're the champions. We've won it the last two years. We definitely plan on making it three in a row."
Last year's MVP Galen Young is now playing in Australia. Guard Ralphie Holmes is playing in France.
The Sun Kins open with back to back games against Great Falls. Yipoff is set for 7:05 on both friday and Saturday at the SunDome.
