Homeowner shoots burglar

Yakima, wa -  A Yakima man refuses to be a victim in a burglary this morning.

The burglary escalated into a shooting with one of suspects getting shot in the arm.

It happened at about 10:30am on the 22-hundred block of South 64th Avenue.

Police say the homeowner was driving by his house when he noticed a strange car parked outside.

The homeowner found the burglary suspects in his rear bedroom.

He had a handgun.

The suspects were armed with guns that were stolen from the house.

He fired the only shot and kept them there until police arrived.

"Well, my dog was barking.  I called him in. Pretty soon it just looked like the entire police department was here," says Dallas Brown, a neighbor.

Police say the suspect was taken to the hospital, but he wasn't seriously hurt.

They do not plan to file any charges against the homeowner.
